When one thinks of a zebra being eating, I would normally think of a Lion feeding on one but when you think about it, Zebras need to drink and when the sun beats down you'd be forgiven for tempting fate for trying to have a drink in quiet down the local watering hole...

The Daily Telegraph said of this Reuters photo "the stricken animal was attempting to cross the Mara river in the Masai Mara game reserve in south-western Kenya when the reptile struck.

And the poor zebra's chances did not look very good as two of the croc's hungry friends lurked menacingly in front of it as well." Stricken Animal?

I say the Zebra was freaking lunch meat!

Crocodiles attack Zebra and Wildebeast as they cross river

So these wildebeast below thought it would be a good idea to cross this river in the Maassai Mara National Park. Haven't they learnt from thousands of years that their ALWAYS a freaking crocodile just waiting to eat one of them for lunch? The above photos shows what happens when there's one lurking and when there's no Mick Dundee around to rescue with his 'this is a knife' your kinda screwed.



Not to be outdone by the wildebeasts' stupidity, this zebra though he might get in on the river crossing adventure too. The best things in life a free right? So a cool swim in the river might be the best thing this Zebra is gonna to today, right? Nope, he's gotta fight for his life as this crocodile managed to sneak up on him in all the chaos and confusion and lock his jaws on the Zebra's sweet hind:

But you know what? Contrary to what these pictures might suggest, the zebra and the wildebeast apparently escaped from the crocodile's jaws of death and actually lived. That's what Charlie Sheen would call winning!

Sadly for the Zebra's, they don't appear to win too often.

Hyenas: lack a certain appeal

How cute am I eh?

All the various Hyena species are hunters and scavenger that are known for their fossicking and foraging on the African plains, preying on the sick, dying and the leftovers of lions. One species of hyena, the aardwolf, however, eats termites!

Hyena are known as the dirty dogs of the animal kingdom. They have extremely strong jaws in relation to their body size and have a very powerful digestive system with highly acidic fluids, making them capable of eating and digesting their entire prey, including skin, teeth, horns and bones. 

Hyena have a poor reputation. Let's just say the bad light that hyena were portrayed in The Lion King was nothing to their real world savagery.

Here's some pictures of a hyena feasting on a ill wildebeast. Look at the below picture, the poor beast is still alive as the hyena feed upon it. Look at that face, those dark eyes.... they remind me of a blind date I went on once. I had nightmares for months after that. The horror, the horror...

Because the hyena's digestive system deals very well with bacteria, they have no aversion to and readily eat carrion which may have been left cooking under the African sun for some time. Like this zebra:

You can almost guarantee this zebra was not taken down the the hyena pack, note the pecking order - lions first, hyena next and then the Carrion Cleaners of Africa, the ever hovering vultures.

The Lions eat well tonight

King of the Jungle.

That's a lion's job.

But the job is tough one.

Dealing with all the animal disputes can be tough going a task.

Sometimes the Lion King will get, shall we say, fed up, and end the matter bought before him by simply eating his loyal subjects. Panthra Leo often shares the spoils with his Queen....or lets them catch  his meal!

It's a true shame these fine animals have been targeted as trophies for walls over the years. Despite the carnage you see here, Lions are wonderful beasts and they have the most amazing adventures. You've see the Lion King right?

Hippo saves on dentist bills

It's not all Animals eating Animals on this site, sometimes the Editor doesn't notice if I slip in the odd cute picture....

Check out a zebra cleaning a hippo's teeth in an enclosure at Zurich Zoo, Switzerland.

Regarded as one of the most aggressive animals in the world, the hippopotamus allowed the zebra to floss its teeth for fifteen minutes.

Must have had some baby Zebra stuck in between the molars eh?
