Turtle Power! Turtle kills and eats a rattlesnake

Wednesday, July 27, 2016
This almost a terrifying picture when you realise just how dangerous turtles can be ! This one has managed to kill and eat a rattlesnake. Through a fence! Cowabunga!

Rattlesnake eaten by a turtle

I thought turtles only ate pizza? Look at the eyes of that snake eating turtle - he's seen things, been places you and I could never fathom. To him, this snake is just a snakey snack. To us, it's a glimpse into the heart of darkness.

Cowabunga indeed.

Alligator failing to eat a turtle - turtle power!!!

alligator trying to eat turtle
Turtle power!
Wildlife photographer Patrick Castleberry was lucky enough to capture these images of this South American alligator unsuccessfully attempt to crack open this plucky turtle's shell somewhere in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia, USA.

Castleberry said:  "I quickly realised what it was and thought the alligator was going to win in the end at cracking the shell. When he finally gave up I walked over to the turtle expecting it to be dead and was amazed to find it quite alive and on its back. I flipped it over and it scrambled into the water"

That's one damn lucky turtle. Alligators are quite fearsome but how fearsome are they really? Did you see this video of the cat that stared down not one but two alligators?

OK, OK, maybe alligators really are fearsone, here's a dude that had his arm bitten off by one (crocs do this too!) but not to anacondas who like to eat alligators for fun.

Turtle captures a pigeon with its jaws, drowns it and then eats it

Saturday, May 18, 2013
I saw this on Reddit and was like, that's amazing! This turtle eyed up some pigeons that were fooling around acting all cool on the side of the bank of the pond and then BLAM! with a speed that most people do not associate with turtles, he snaps his jaws at the throat of the pigeon and manages to grab it by the neck.

With its powerful jaws firmly locked on the bird, the turtle retreats to deep water, no doubt to drown its avian friend.

Nature at its finest indeed. It's just a real shame the bird will never hear a U2 song again.

What do Jelly Fish eat? And who eats them?

Wednesday, July 21, 2010
These Jelly Fish are the right way up!
Like boobies, Jellyfish come in all shapes and sizes and indeed, colours. But what do they eat? How to they catch their food and do they eat with ketchup? Or who eats them? What creatures find jelly fish  tasty?

First up, what are Jelly Fish? Are they actually fish? The internet reveals all: Jellyfish (also known as jellies or sea jellies or medusozoa) are free-swimming members of the phylum Cnidaria. Jellyfish have several different morphologies that represent several different cnidarian classes. Medusa is another word for jellyfish, and as such is used to refer specifically to the adult stage of the life cycle.

Really? I thought Medusa was a lady with snakes in her head.... but I digress, what have we appeared to have learned here children? Jelly Fish are not actually fish. Fish are fish. Fish are also friends, not food.

Okay, I told a lie, Jellyfish eat fish. Indeed, when ordering pizza, they order extra anchovies.
Jellyfish are actually carnivorous. They eat a healthy diet of  zooplankton, smaller fish and sometimes other jellyfish. Bigger jellies eat large crustaceans like shrimp.

This guy is simply here because he looks cool!
I may have written above that fish are friends and not food, we know that's not necessarily true - the same does not apply to Jelly Fish. Many sea creatures find jellies and the members of the Medusa family to be tasty treats. Like jelly is.

So fish like to eat Jelly Fish:

Starfish seem to like to eat them, but how the fuck to they catch them? Sneak up on them when they are dead? That's what sunstars do with octopus...

And there's always a hungry turtle around that's keen to try any fish once...

Turtle vs Heron: Not so clear cut a meal

Saturday, March 20, 2010
Turtle eating Heron didn't go as planned for the Heron. This heron tried to swallow a round turtle in this photograph taken by Jose F Garcia at the Everglades National Park in Florida. The heron bird apparently spent 25 minutes turning the nine-inch reptile over in its beak as it tried to figure out how to eat the turtle.

I hate it when it takes than long for the main to be served!
