Bullfrog chokes to death on a chipmunk

bullfrog chokes to death on a chipmunk

A Redditor reports this ribbeting story:

"Opened my pool... saw a HUGE bullfrog swimming in the water... I had been saving chipmunks from drowning all week (because they weren't used to the pool cover being off)... came back the next day, bullfrog wasn't moving and was dead at the bottom of the pool... BECAUSE HE CHOKED ON A CHIPMUNK."

The bull frog probably thought he was onto an easy free meal but his eyes were bigger than his furry lunch date.

Given frogs will pretty much eat anything that moves (usually smaller fry like insects) the frog would have literally jumped at the chance to eat some delicious chipmunk meat.

I for one, will never toad-ally forget this picture! Are they sure frog didn't die of two much chlorine in the water? Maybe they need a test kit for that.

Snakes alive! Frog eats a snake...

Usually it's the other way around, the snake eats the frog. In this case, the frog is the victor...

spider caught by venus trap
It's a Trap!

Awesome photos of Venus Fly Trap plants eating flies and spiders...

Venus Fly Traps were one of the most fascinating things I ever saw as a child.

We had one in the kitchen and my Dad showed me how to taunt them by poking them with a pencil to get them to close shut.

He once pretended to get his finger eaten by one too which totally terrified me. The joke was on him though as later that day there was a terrible chainsaw accident which we don't really talk about.

So for those not in the loop, the Venus Fly Trap (also Venus's Flytrap or Venus' Flytrap) is a carnivorous plant that catches and digests animal prey.

Their diet usually consist of insects and spiders.

And a note, yes, plants are not animals, I know......

Caught in a Trap
As I'm sure Admiral Akbar would point out, the Venus' trapping structure is formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves and is triggered by tiny hairs on their inner surfaces.

When an insect, worm or spider walking along the leaves contacts a hair, the trap will close if a different individual hair is contacted generally within twenty seconds of the first strike.

This is a kind of fail safe mechanism to preserve the Venus Trap's energy by preventing it from catching items with no nutritional value.

Any way's you came here for the action shots of Venus Fly Traps eating their prey like worms and flies so here you go:

Here's a treat for every hungry Venus Trap, a frog! How the hell the plant was strong enough to keep this jumping fellow, I don't know but I think it's a pretty impressive effort!

I bet this grasshopper totally regrets jumping around willy nilly now!

The true story of the Perch and The frog

frog in mouth of fish
Sorry, I have a frog in my throat

I think I found this on reddit but have lost the link.

A perch has eaten a frog, which has then been caught by a fisher man who then made this green discovery! Here's what the fisherman said of his discovery

"As I was pulling my lure from the fish to release back into the water I noticed two little eyes looking back at me from inside the fish's mouth. After capturing this picture, the little green tree frog leaped straight past my head onto the nearest tree. It was one of the coolest things I have seen in my life! This is one lucky frog!"

I'd need to drink a Supercharger beer after that experience.

What do bats eat?

Pictures of bats eating frogs and giant spiders

Bat Out of Hell is my favourite album of all time (OK, perhaps second to U2's Achtung Baby) so it was amusing when they played it at work today and I thought, why hasn't Animals Eating Animals featured bats eating things yet?

Perhaps you may have asked your self, what do bats eat?

And so here we are with images of fruit bats and other batty fellows eating things like frogs, watermelon and scarily large centipede.

bat eating cricket

Here's a bat eating a green cricket, and below is a poor spider getting a some fat fangs to his abdomen which almost seems ironic. Don't you think?

spider eaten by bat

This picture below almost looks staged, but it appears to be a bat flying whilst holding a centipede in his mouth.

People often think of bats as bloofy thirsty monsters - and you can thank Bram Stoker for that, but the truth is that bats often eat noting but fruit!

And here's a picture of The Great Detective Batman eating his eggs:

Want more? How about this role reversal of a spider eating a bat that it caught in it's web? That must have been an epic food fight!

African Bullfrog eats a mouse. Fievel never makes another movie

Friday, November 12, 2010
Why Fievel never made another movie again...
You wouldn't normally expect to see a picture of a frog eating a mouse but it appears there's a carnivorous amphibians who seems to like munch down on the little furry critters.
The African Bullfrog pictured above seems to have a preference for small rodents! The Telegraph reported "The enormous amphibians, unlike the docile frogs found in English garden ponds, are known for their aggressive nature and will attack virtually any animal that comes within reach."

Above: An African bull frog eats a whole bird, feathers and all. Spiders eat birds too you know...

It appears that African bullfrogs lie in wait for their prey before suddenly lunging when they sense movement nearby. This is a common trick for predators, check out this crocodile trying to eat a baby elephant after employing the same method.
Of course it's not all fun and pond games for bullfrogs, occasionally they end up as lunch them selves - check out this picture of a frog being eating by a water moccasin snake:

African Bull frogs are big beasts, they can weigh up to 2kg (4.4lbs) and are native to central and southern Africa but are often found as pets around the rest of the world.

Pyxicephalus adspersus is the latin name for the African Bullfrog.

Snakes eating animals

Tuesday, May 25, 2010
I believe it was the actor Samuel L Jackson who uttered the immortal movie line

"Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!"

Well here at Animals Eating Animals we love snakes and judging by these pictures, we can understand why the rest of the animal kingdom and Sam Jackson are trying to get the mother fucking snakes off the plane.

First up, the simple things in life.

A snake eating a frog. Not much of a challenge for our serpentine friend but none-the-less a tasty morsel.

Snake eating a frog

How about a snake taking on a bird? They must be a bit harder to catch and eat than a frog right?

Hmmm, I suspect this bird simply fell asleep in the gutter after a hard night out on the piss and Mr Snake on his way home from this job at the mill simply found him and had him for breakfast

Lizards Gizards!

I think I smell a rat! It's not like I can see the lil bastard anymore....

snake eating baby mice

Oh look a pop princess about to get eaten by an albino python! No, it's just Britney Spears performing a hot lil number for K Fed or who it is she's shacked up with these days. That is one damn lucky snake though eh....

Here's a rattle snake eating a mouse from National Geographic Magazine. I hear rattle snakes can be better than cats at catching mice. You just put one in your kitchen cupboard and they eat the mouse treats. When all mice have been eating the rattlesnake simply moves into your back yard to eat dust.

Sometimes snakes like to each other. Here's a picture of a cape cobra eating a puff adder. Please do not confuse this with a cobra eating Puff Duddy.

Check out those fangs

Here's possibly the dumbest python in existence. Check out this image of the python  trying to eat a live electric fence:

Just so no-one thinks all pythons are dumb here is one of the most awesome shots ever. A python dragging a kangaroo up a cliff. It's an all time classic!

Look how long the bastard is!

What do frogs eat?

Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Frogs. Kermit. Ribbit. Princes under evil witches spells. Tadpoles. Croaking. Frogs remind me of grog. Which is awesome as grog is awesome.

Fuck, frogs are cool. Here's some frogs eating various things found in the swamp...such as other frogs like this bloke above.... or this whole bird below!

More bird anyone?

What else do bull frogs get up to when they are a bit peckish? Grass snake?

How about jumping across the great divide for a slater?

Of course, frogs are not really king of the pond, and sometimes the birds get their revenge:

Kermit the frog also once ate Lady Gaga. It wasn't pretty...

Hello, Hello, do you like frogs? Gnomes?
